Android's installer will warn about "unknown sources" the first time β€” that's expected for an app outside the Play Store, not a sign anything is wrong. Tap through to allow it.

Windows installer, macOS app, Raspberry Pi/Linux .deb: the till opens in its own app window β€” no browser, no terminal. Windows: run the installer, then launch "Universal Till" from the Start menu/desktop shortcut. macOS: open the .dmg, drag Universal Till into Applications and open it β€” the app is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS only asks you once to confirm. Raspberry Pi/Debian/Ubuntu .deb: after sudo apt install ./unitill-pos_*.deb, "Universal Till" is in your applications menu. Portable .tar.gz/.zip archives: on Windows and Linux, double-click unitill-desktop.exe / unitill-desktop for the same app-window experience; run-unitill.command/.sh/.bat opens your default browser instead. The macOS portable archive is not notarized: the first time, macOS blocks run-unitill.command β€” open System Settings β†’ Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Dedicated Raspberry Pi till (no desktop needed): on a fresh Raspberry Pi OS Lite install, reboot once after installing the .deb β€” the first boot sets up the kiosk, and from then on the Pi starts straight into the till, fullscreen, no desktop at all. On Raspberry Pi OS with Desktop, the till opens fullscreen on top of the desktop when you log in; Settings β†’ Display β†’ "Exit to OS window" (manager PIN) takes you back to the desktop.
