Android till app: free EPOS for Android tablets

Turn an Android tablet into a full till. The whole till runs on the tablet itself, so a sale completes with no internet at all. Free and open source, with no monthly fee for the core.

Android 7.0 or newer ยท installed from our website, not Google Play yet

The sale screen, the same on an Android tablet as on every other till

What you get on an Android tablet

The same till, not a cut-down app

The Android app runs the very same till as the Windows, Mac and Raspberry Pi versions: the sale screen, catalogue, stock, receipts and reports.

Keeps selling offline

Everything is stored on the tablet. If the Wi-Fi drops, the status bar says so and you keep ringing up sales.

Bluetooth scanners and scales

Pair a Bluetooth barcode scanner or scale from inside the till. Android asks you once to allow Bluetooth.

One till or several

An Android tablet can be your main till or join another till on your shop's network, and sales sync between them.

Self-order kiosk

Set a tablet to self-order and customers order on it themselves. The till asks Android to pin the screen, which blocks Home and Recents while it stays pinned.

Updates from inside the till

When a new version is out, tap the update chip, then confirm in Android's own installer. The first time, Android also asks you to allow the install.

Set up an Android till

Three steps

  1. On the tablet, open the download page and tap the Android app. Most tablets need the 64-bit version; the page picks it for you.
  2. When Android asks, allow installing from unknown sources. Play Protect may say it hasn't seen the app before: tap Scan app, then install.
  3. Open Universal Till and follow the setup: your language, your shop's country and its name. Then add your products.

Good to know

  • The app isn't on Google Play yet. You download it from this website.
  • Android doesn't let an app replace itself silently, so every update needs one tap in Android's installer.
  • An Android till that joins a main till doesn't update itself to match: install the new version on it by hand.
  • Card payments go through your own card machine and provider, which may need its own connection.
  • Screen pinning is Android's standard pin: it only starts once you accept Android's prompt, and someone who knows Android's unpin gesture can still leave it. For a lock that can't be undone, the tablet must be set up as a managed device.

Android till questions

Does the tablet need Wi-Fi or mobile data?

Not to sell: a sale completes on the tablet with no connection at all. Wi-Fi is needed to work with other tills on your shop's network and to download updates, and a card machine needs whatever connection its own provider requires.

Can an Android tablet work alongside a Windows or Raspberry Pi till?

Yes. Every version runs the same till, so one shop can mix them: the Android tablet can be the main till, or join a main till on another platform over your shop's network.

Is it on Google Play?

Not yet. Download the app from our download page. Android warns you the first time because the app comes from outside Google Play; that is expected.

Which tablets does it run on?

Android 7.0 or newer. There is a 64-bit version for most tablets, one for older 32-bit tablets, and a universal one if you're not sure.
