Privacy policy
This policy covers universaltill.com — this website — not the Universal Till software itself, which runs on your own hardware and is covered by its own documentation.
Who we are
Task Runner Technology Ltd (“we”, “us”), 82 A James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Suffolk, England, IP28 7DE, United Kingdom, company number 11442274, is the controller for personal data processed through this website. We have paid the UK data protection fee and are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, registration number ZC263752. See our legal notice for full company details.
What we collect, and why
Browsing this site. This site sets no cookies and sends nothing to any analytics or advertising service unless you choose Accept on the cookie banner. Your choice (accept or reject) is kept in your browser’s own local storage, together with your chosen display language, so the site remembers both on your next visit; neither is sent to us or anyone else. Our hosting provider (Microsoft Azure Static Web Apps) processes standard web-server technical logs (for example, IP address, browser type, and the page requested) as part of running the service, for security and reliability, for a limited retention period it controls.
Analytics, only if you accept. If you accept, we use Google
Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited (with Google LLC in the
United States as its sub-processor), to understand how visitors use this
site, for example which pages are read and which countries visitors come
from, so we can improve it. Our lawful basis is your consent. Google
then sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_<id>, lasting up to two
years) and receives the pages you view, your device, browser and screen
details, an approximate location derived from your IP address (Google
Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses), and a random
identifier for your browser. We have turned off Google signals and ad
personalisation, and we do not use this data for advertising. Google
Analytics keeps the event-level data about your visits for two months,
after which Google deletes it; only aggregated reports (counts, not
individual visits) are kept longer. We ask again after twelve months. You can change your
mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page;
rejecting after you accepted stops analytics and deletes those cookies.
The download page makes a request directly from your browser to GitHub’s public releases API to show the current app version. That request carries no data about you beyond what any web request does (e.g. your IP address, visible to GitHub, not to us).
Emailing us. The “Join the pilot” and “Notify me” links on this site open a pre-filled email in your own mail client, addressed to support@universaltill.com — nothing is submitted to us through the website itself. When you send that email (or any other email to us), we receive and store it, including whatever you choose to tell us (for example, your name, shop name, city, and the till system you use today), to reply to you and, if you’re joining the pilot, to set up and run the pilot with your shop.
We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t share it with third parties except where necessary to run our business (for example, our email provider) or where the law requires it.
Retention
We keep pilot and enquiry emails for as long as reasonably needed to manage our relationship with you, then delete or anonymise them.
International transfers
Where a service we use to receive or store your email, or (if you accept analytics) Google Analytics, operates outside the UK or European Economic Area, we rely on that provider’s own safeguards for the transfer: the standard contractual clauses and, for Google LLC, its certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the UK Extension to it.
Your rights
Depending on where you’re located, data protection law (including UK GDPR and, for EU visitors, the EU GDPR) may give you the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict how we use it. To exercise any of these, email support@universaltill.com. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to your local data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time; the date at the top of this page shows the latest revision.
